A grand vintage Albert chain from the late 20th Century made up of solid sterling silver curb links gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold. It’s complete with a classic T-bar, the maker’s initials (H.R.J), and Sheffield import hallmarks at the clasp.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert in the 19th Century and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It’s a durable chain with a good weight and can be worn as a traditional Albert or as a stylish necklace.
