This fine antique Victorian Albert chain is made up of faceted cable links, engraved fancy links and larger, interlocking fetter links with jagged edges and engraved patterning down the sides. They’re each fashioned in 9ct gold and have developed a lovely rosy-bronze hue with age.
Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It's a wonderful antique Albert chain and is complete with the classic T-bar at the bottom and double claw-clasp at the top.
